Uber no longer picks up and drops off only people.
The ride-sharing firm has entered the food-delivery business with a new, stand-alone app, which debuted this week in Stamford. UberEATS allows workers and residents throughout the city to order from some 40 establishments, in the same way that they would use the original Uber app to order a ride.
“Uber started with the idea of solving the problem of getting a ride and making it easy to get a ride,” said Casey Verkamp, general manager of UberEATS Connecticut. “Now, we’d like to solve the next problem, which is getting high-quality food.”
