A Connecticut businessman is headed to Haiti, along with his daughter, as part of the organization "Hope for Haiti." They'll bring thousands of pounds of supplies with them, all thanks to generous donations.
Carl Kuehner, the CEO of Building and Land Technology in Stamford, has volunteered with "Hope for Haiti" ever since his mother founded it back in 1990. He's made dozens of trips to Haiti, and will travel there again Saturday to bring aid to earthquake victims.
"It's frightening that it's been three days and people are hungry and thirsty and we're doing surgeries outside," said Carl Kuehner, before leaving his office Friday afternoon to catch a flight to Miami.
His daughter Tiffany will go with him on the trip. She's made numerous trips to Haiti, and even lived there for two years.
"The amount of sadness, pain, and desperation is just beyond comprehension," said Tiffany Kuehner.
They'll bring 75-thousand pounds of food, water, and medical supplies. The plane and crew are being donated by Arrow Cargo out of Florida, and will fly out of Miami International Airport. A second flight will go out soon. GE Capital is covering the cost of fuel for both flights.
"It couldn't happen fast enough. We look forward to getting it down there and getting it distributed," said Carl Kuehner.
"My goal is to get there and move as much of the supplies as possible, as safely and effectively. We're gonna outreach to as many organizations as possible," said Tiffany Kuehner.
They'll stay in Haiti for 24 hours before returning home to regroup and plan for the next flight.
"I think it's going to be worse that I can ever imagine," said Tiffany Kuehner.
