Think you can fashion a kayak out of cardboard and tape in two hours? Then you might want to join the city’s first ever cardboard kayak race taking place at Stamford Harbor.
Participants receive 10 sheets of cardboard, three rolls of duct tape, 10 rolls of clear packing tape, a utility knife, a yardstick and a marker to get the job done. Then prepare to set sail on your creation.
The competition — which grants a “Titanic Award” for sinking in style — is part of SoundWaters’ First Annual HarborFest, a day of events put on by the environmental education group to promote the waterfront, culminating in a grand fireworks show that evening. The contest will be Saturday, Aug. 27, from noon to 3, on the waterfront at Harbor Point.
Bob Mazzone, vice president of development for SoundWaters, said that goal of HarborFest is to “engage people in the harbor in all sorts of ways.”
