Wine and Spirits Store Eyes Spring Debut in Harbor Point

March 14, 2018

The owner of downtown Greenwich’s Horseneck Wines & Liquors plans to open within the next couple of months a second establishment, in the Harbor Point complex in Stamford’s South End.

Theresa “Terry” Rogers is targeting a launch between mid-April and early May for Harbor Point Wines & Spirits, at 130 Washington Blvd. Rogers lives with her husband a few hundred yards away in the Infinity apartment building.

“I’ve done a number of wine tastings for the Infinity residents, and it’s always a wonderful turnout as people are very excited about learning about wine,” Rogers said Tuesday. “At Harbor Point Wines & Spirits, we want to make it a family feeling when they walk in the store.”

Taking 1,347 square feet at the site of a former Walgreens, Harbor Point Wines & Spirits will operate yards away from a bustling restaurant row on Harbor Point Road that includes Sign of the Whale, Boothbay Lobster, Bareburger, Fortina and the new Mexicue.

“We’ll do a lot of events with the restaurants,” Rogers said. “And we want to make it fun and educational. We’ll have virtual (video) conferencing from wineries, so if one of them is having a tasting, you can be part of that experience here.”

Rogers has owned Horseneck Wines & Liquors, which operates at 25 E. Putnam Ave., since 1989.

Among other upcoming arrivals in Harbor Point, the owners of Patisserie Salzburg — which has two cafes in Westchester County, N.Y. — plan to open a third location in the spring at 2 Harbor Point Road.

Building and Land Technology, the Stamford-based developer that owns Harbor Point Wines & Spirits’ building and many of the surrounding buildings, hopes to bring in another restaurant at 18 Harbor Point Road, where World of Beer closed a couple of months ago. It also wants to recruit a coffeehouse to the adjacent 24 Harbor Point Road.

“We’ve still got a number of restaurants that are doing great,” BLT Chief Operating Officer Ted Ferrarone said in an interview last month. “We’re always fine-tuning the mix and trying to find restaurants that will resonate with both the residents and office tenants in Harbor Point.”

Residential expansion in Harbor Point is driving the business growth. A 392-unit building opened last year at 100 Commons Park North. A couple of blocks away, BLT is building 435 units in two towers on a site between Harbor Point Road, Pacific Street and Dyke Lane.
